Surgery Information
We want you to feel comfortable before agreeing to any potential surgery or consultation, so please read through the following information carefully to get an overview of what you can expect. If you have questions, please see our Frequently Asked Questions page here, or contact Mr McPherson’s secretary
Before Surgery
At the initial consultation, it is normal that your pupils will be dilated. It is therefore advisable that you do not drive to your appointment as the dilating drops may impair your driving vision. Please arrange for someone you know to take you to and from your appointment, or use public transport.
If you are coming for a cataracts assessment and wear contact lenses, they should be left out for 2 days prior to consultation for soft lenses. For gas permeable or hard contact lenses, you will need to leave them out for 2 weeks. This is to allow accurate operative measurements to be taken.
Please bring a copy of your glasses prescription and a list of your current medications to your consultation appointment, and if possible a referral letter from either your optician or GP.
Initial consultations will usually take 30 mins.
After Surgery
You will be given eye drops to put in your operated eye following surgery. These help to reduce the inflammation and guard against infection.
Use them until the bottle runs out (usually 2 weeks).
If you have eye drops for glaucoma please continue to use them as normal unless advise otherwise.
